E291   Early Black Head Decoy, carver unknown.  Decoy is from the Mill Creek area in Anne Arundel County, MD – just north of the Severn River.  The “C” brand on the bottom stands for “Cantler” – which represents the family who owned the decoy rig. This is an outstanding decoy with an unusual wooden keel reinforced with a lead strip around the entire bottom of the keel.  Circa 1920’s.
