F564 Late 18th century pine Blanket Chest from Pennsylvania with original crab lick and beautiful strap hinges. In its original salmon paint with a large mariners compass done in black and white on center of lid. The other two top panels are well worn. The front is decorated with three blue painted tombstone panels. The front two outer panels have a red and black mariners compass on top and all three have double yellow stem with red tulips in black urns. All three front panels also have a black trim. The base of the chest is also trimmed in black while the top molding is held in place with wooded pegs and decorated in black and white paint. The case is all dovetail construction held together with wooden pegs. The strap hinges are secured by rose head nails. No repairs done to this chest. Another blanket chest very similar to this one was made by Christian Seltzer from Jonestown school in Jonestown PA. Circa 1780-1785. Measurements are 52” long x 22 3/4” deep x 22 1/4” tall
