F731 This is an amazing and beautiful one of a kind American folk art. 19th century high wheel bicycle. Made of all white oak wood except for the small back wheel which is made of poplar wood. The front wheel is of great workmanship. It is made of offsetting mortised spokes. The outer edge of wheel is wrapped in a iron band. The pedals are attached with a iron bolt through the front wheel hub. The frame to the back wheel was steamed and bent. A lot of thought went into making the homemade seat which is attached with a old heavy spring. Circa 1860-1880, 19th c., overall - 52" high., wheel - 30" dia.
