F108 Rare style New England Comb-Back Windsor Armchair bearing early black painted surface. Seven spindles covered by a crest rail form the narrow comb back with only one additional short spindle - most small comb-backs have two - between the back and the turned arm support on each side. The arm supports of this chair are positioned to the extreme rear of the seat – which is also unusual. Mortised legs with turnings joined by an H stretcher support the shield-shaped seat. Believed to be from Connecticut.
Circa 1800.
Chair measures 20 ½” across tips of arms x 16 ¼” from seat to floor x 35 ½” tall back.
