Quaint Devotional Sampler identified as being wrought by “Elizabeth Sophia Page”. Featuring a Psalm/Hymn verse that is framed by wonderful Strawberry / Vine border with 35 individually stitched strawberries. The Sampler is linen and wool, and bears losses throughout that are indicative of age, which most likely dates to 1830 - 1850. The verse has been determined to have once fully read as:
When in the world we still remain
We only meet to part again
But when we reach the heavenly shore
We then shall meet to part no more”
The lower half of the Sampler depicts a red house with two chimneys, surrounded by several trees, including a bird perched atop a very distinct apple tree. Other spot motifs found throughout the Sampler include birds, flowers, several animals and a number of various geometrical shapes.
