G503 Late 19th century Folk art carved & painted nautical Schooner ship plaque-signed by Capt H. Hartman. The ship area is relief carved with many detailed features, including three masts, curved/billowing sails, rigging and textured waves and clouds. The paint accentuates these carved details, adding to the exceptional work in this piece. The frame is also hand carved and inclues incised lines, as well as a rope border on both inner and outer edges, that retains remnants of gold paint. The thinly incised lines on the frame have been painted a pumpkin color adding to the appeal. Circa 1880 - 1890's. Measurements: 15 1/4" tall x 15 1/4" wide x 1" thick. Ship carving area is 9 1/4" tall x 9 1/4" wide.
