G582 Mid 19th Century beautifully blue painted wooden mortar and pestle from New England. Each piece was made from a single piece of wood and both have remnants of three matching incised rings indicative of them being a matched pair from inception. Both pieces are very solid, with only a few minor surface splits in the wood at base of mortar’s bowl and a small nick on the very bottom edge of the base from an apparent wayward saw cut that shows along the very bottom of the mortar. Mortar measurements are: 6 1/4” tall x 4 1/2” diameter base. Pestle measurements are: 9 1/4” long x 2 1/4” diameter bottom with a 1” ball at top.
