G672 18th century, identified and dated, hand-stitched band sampler by “Susanna Young, Lambourn Berks 1797” in a beautiful birds-eye maple frame. Sampler is stitched with what appears to be cotton threads over linen material and boasts blues, browns, tans, green and ecru colors. The symmetrical layout includes two sets of alphabet letters (one in capital letters, one in lowercase- the letter “J” being absent from both), the numbers 1-9 & 0, a row of vines/flowers, a row of several styles of crowns, and incorporates various other bands along with geometrical shapes. Appears to have been professionally mounted and framed in a way that intentionally shows all four edges of the sampler itself. Excellent condition. The actual sampler measures 11” tall x 14” wide. Framed measurements are 14 3/4” tall x 17 1/2” wide.
