G697 Exceptional 19th century Moravian Chest of Drawers - attributed to Karsten Petersen (1776-1857) of Salem, North Carolina - retaining its beautiful original dry salmon and black painted surface. The chest of drawers features rounded corners, five dovetailed drawers with original knobs and scratch beading around each drawer, resting on Petersen's signature 'peg leg' style feet that are 9" tall! The drawer runners are dovetailed into the sides of the chest. The back consists of two wide boards with chamfered edges mortised into the sides. Circa 1820 - 1830s.
