H278 Very rare and early Canvasback Drake decoy attributed to John Holly, Jr (1852-1927) or William Holly (1845-1923). Branded with ‘H’ on bottom.  John and William continued making decoys after their father (John “Daddy” Holly) passed away in 1892. Their shop was behind the family home on Alliance Street in Havre de Grace, MD. Their style of carving was chunkier, and more rounded, than their father’s style, but still very sought after.  Circa 1895-1920. Please refer to page 239 of the book “Decoys of the mid-Atlantic region” by Henry A. Fleckenstein, Jr. for additional details.
