RM1283 Spectacular early 19th Century Maryland Sea Chest in original blue paint with a hand-painted ship proudly bearing an early U.S. flag on the lid surrounded by a hand-painted rope border. Pine wood, "6-plank" construction - meaning all four sides, top lid and bottom were all made from single planks of wood, with dovetailed joints securing all four sides. Small glove til/storage area inside, original hinges/hardware and original rope beckets. Overall it is 16” tall. Top of chest portion measures 16” deep, Bottom of chest is is 16 3/4” deep x 35 1/4” wide. The lid is 16 1/4” deep x 37” wide with a 1 1/2” skirt on each end to prevent water and the elements from getting inside the chest. This is an absolutely fantastic piece of Americana Nautical History!
