D21 B. C. MILBURN POTTERY (1805-1867) Benedict C. Milburn was born in Maryland in 1805. At age 17 he moved to Alexandria, Virginia in 1822, where he apprenticed himself to be a potter. Milburn leased the Wilkes Street Pottery in 1833 and began producing Stoneware for H.C. Smith. By 1841 he had purchased the property and ran a successful business until his death in 1867. 8" tall 5 1/4" diameter
