L217 Philadelphia-style bench made Comb-Back Windsor Armchair in original black painted surface.  This sturdy bench made Windsor features a tall, stately back with nine straight spindles topped with a crest rail boasting carved “ears” and rests on graceful turnings on the stretcher and legs – which are mortised through the broad, D-shaped seat.  Measurements: 28” across front of arms x 17 ½” deep seat x 46” tall back. The seat measures 18 ¼” tall from floor.

Chair retains nicely turned finials on top, as well as its original ball feet and boasts bold ball turnings on the front rung with nice wear. The five arched slats along the back are all mortised and pegged. Very sturdy. Retains good height. Circa 1750 - 1790. Measurements: 46 ½” tall (back) x 24” wide (front arms) x 17 ½” deep (seat). Seat height is 17”.

The wood is pine. Often called a "Deacon's" or Hall Bench, this sturdy example is from about 1840. Measurements: 70 ¾” long x 21" deep x 32 ½” tall. Seat height is 16 ¼” tall.
