E169 Early 19th Century oval Pennsylvania German wooden Bride's Box in the “The Best dry robins egg blue paint”
measures 17 1/2” wide 11 1/2” deep 7” tall
These oval boxes were popular in Germany and America from 1750 to 1850. They were made of wood and then decorated by the "schachtelmaler" or box painter. The boxes were given as a wedding gift or a love gift from the groom. Smaller items in the bride's trouseau such as linens, lace and ribbons were stored in these boxes
