E43 Beautiful framed Tinsel painting of a Basket of Fruit that includes two kinds of grapes, cherries, pear, apple, plums, lemon, strawberry and bananas. As printed on the back: “Tinsel Painting is a form of primitive art done by young ladies from colored tinsel paper. The art enjoyed its greatest popularity from 1825 – 1875. Ruth Voliman” Tinsel paintings are reverse paintings on glass with smooth or crumpled metallic foil applied behind translucent and transparent areas causing the effect of shimmering highlights when viewed in candlelight or gaslight. This would be an excellent addition to a collection of Theorems or Reverse Paintings.
