H328 Early 19th century identified and dated, hand-stitched sampler by “Julia Cresswell Aged 11 years Feb 17 1838”.  Sampler is stitched with what appears to be cotton threads over linen material and boasts blues, browns, tans, green, pink and ecru colors.  Features a band of partial alphabet (letters A - V) across the top with a row of vines and flowers below, and a border around the outside edge as well as around the name and date. Various versions of flowers and trees in baskets and urns adorn the field of the sampler. A single heart, and several types of animals including a lion, birds and deer (among others) are stitched within the sampler.  Appears to have been professionally mounted and framed back into original frame. Wire on back for hanging purposes. The actual sampler viewing area measures 15” tall x 14 1/2” wide. Framed measurements are 19” tall x 18 1/2” wide x 1" thick.
