(i308) Mid-19th century Child’s Turkey Red cotton dress with pearl buttons. Children’s clothing was made with additional tucks that could be let out as the child grew. The fading at the tuck seams of this example provides evidence this dress was used for a long period of time as several tucks have been let out and show various degrees of fading. There is extensive deterioration of the fabric – which is common with Turkey Red prints - due to ingredients used in the dye process to create the distinctive color.
Circa 1850s-1860s.
