J270 Early 19th century Mortar and Pestle with original bittersweet red painted surface. Very simple turnings, with faint remnants of incised lines around the bowl and base areas. Vertical open age crack along one side of bowl. Base of pestle, and inside of mortar, shows extensive wear and great natural patina from years of use. Measurements: 6 ¾” tall x 4 ¾” diameter. Pestle measures 9” long.
