K147 Rare Dentzel Carousel hand painted panel from the Lenape Park Carousel in the area of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. The beautiful wooden panel retains its ornately carved edges and bears its original polychrome painted surface featuring a hand painted duck in the center. This carved panel dates to the late 1890’s – 1910 time period. The West Chester Street Railway Company established Lenape Park as a destination accessible by their trolley around 1891 – and the Gustav and William Dentzel carousel was opened to the public in 1926. The carousel was adorned with a total of 48 hand-carved figures, and an undocumented amount of these hand-carved and painted panels that were made specifically for the Lenape Park Carousel for then owner, John V. Gibney. The Lenape Park Carousel remained in operation until the late 1970s.
