K1503 19th century Pennsylvania original blue painted tall wooden Lantern featuring four bubbled glass panels contained within a wooden pinned and post construction frame. Door opens freely to access the crudely made metal candle socket. The area above the candle is covered with tin to prevent scorching/burning of the wood. There is a hole in the top for ventilation purposes which is covered on the exterior with a bent piece of sheet metal to create a hood that protects the candle flame from wind/rain. A wire bale handle is attached to the top for carrying/hanging purposes. Two very early metal “make-do” repairs are present on the top where the hood is attached. The wood is pine. Circa mid-1800s.
