sampler
K285 Early 19th century identified and dated, hand-stitched sampler by “Jane Forty Aged 9 years February the 9 184_”.  A verse: “Remember thy Creator in the days of thy youth * Godliness with contentment is great gain” is stitched below the alphabet bands. Sampler is stitched with what appears to be cotton threads in blue and ecru/tan colors over linen material.  The top portion of the sampler features three bands of full alphabets and the numbers 1-8 with bands of various stitches separating the rows. Various versions of flowers, birds, animals, and crowns adorn the upper and lower field of the sampler. A nicely stitched border surrounds the sampler. Minor fabric loss in upper left quadrant, however the stitching remains remarkably preserved for its age. Wire on back for hanging purposes.
Framed measurements are 12 ¾” wide x 3/8” thick x 12 ½” tall.
