L405 Early 19th century handmade Niddy-Noddy yarn winder with decorative carved center shaft, steamed and bent supports for the fully mortised and pegged ends. Natural patina surface. Circa 1800-1810.
Each end measures approximately 12 ¼” wide and overall length is 18” long.
NOTE: These were essential items for hand spinners to wind yarn their newly spun wool yarn into skeins by repeatedly winding the yarn over, around and over the cross bars until it equaled twice the bar’s length to be considered a full skein.
