**SOLD** M166 Very early 19th century New England Wooden Firkin bearing its exceptionally beautiful original dry blue painted surface. A small note taped inside reads: “Firkin – Purchased at Sturbridge Antiques Charlton Rd. Sturbridge, Mass. April 20,1969 $4.00”. The staved sides are tongue and groove construction secured with wooden bands with overlapping fingers secured with small tacks and one band has a rosehead nail at the very tip. The steamed and bent wooden handle is secured with wooden pegs and pins and there is an early repair to a split at the very end of the handle below the peg. Lid is missing.
Measurements: 9 ¾” top diameter x 11" bottom diameter x 10 ½” tall (not including handle).
