**SOLD** M174 Late 19th century Pennsylvania Country Store Wooden Barrel with Lid bearing original taupe color painted surface and clean, natural patina interior – signed on bottom. The staved wooden sides are held in place with hand-hewn, steamed and bentwood bands that are attached with square head nails and small wire nails. The bands retain an early red paint over the original taupe painted surface. Written in script lettering on the bottom are the initials “S (or L), F, R” and “Kennet….”, along with remnants of black stenciled lettering (illegible). Circa 1890s to 1900.
Approximate measurements: ~15" top /bottom diameter x ~24" tall – not including the lid. Lid – which appears to be later and retains a taupe color over original olive green painted surface - measures 18” – 18 ¼” diameter.
