M275 EXCELLENT early 20th century small sized hand-woven splint gathering basket – possibly of North Carolina origin – bearing the original black and red painted surface. The rectangular form boasts tight weave with a double wrapped, double rim with handle that is woven into the sides and secured with a small tack on each side. Appears to be made of white oak and river cane construction, which is typical of NC baskets. No breaks or losses and very minor flaking to the paint.
Measurements: 9 ¼” x 6 ¾” x 5” tall sides. ~8 ¼” tall including handle.
