M76 19th century New England Scouring Box in original red paint. Tall tombstone shaped back with center hole for hanging. Canted sides on box, with a circular concave area where the lye soap would rest when drying. The wood is pine with square head nail construction. The back has “BLENHEIM PIPPIN” stenciled in faint black paint – indicating this item may have been made with heavy duty apple crates.
Measurements: 4 ½” wide (back) x ¾” thick x 35 ¾” tall. The box portion is 6 1/8” wide x 4" deep x 7 1/8” tall (front) x 8 5/8” tall (back).
