RM1039 Charles Barnard (1876-1958) High-head Canvasback drake decoy from upper Chesapeake Bay. Notice the boat hull-like body and original balance weight. Barnard was a guide and market hunter. Many consider his decoys to be the finest example of an Upper Bay carving. The body is original with working repaint (original painted feathers can be seen under second coat of paint) The head was carved by Lloyd Cargile, based on an original example of Barnard’s work.
