RM1430 Nautical painting of a ship bearing several flags – painted on the inside of a lid from an old sea chest. A very thick painted canvas material covers the back and extends beyond the edges of three sides. The canvas is secured with rounded-top copper tacks on three edges and wire nails on the fourth edge. The threads of extended canvas sections have been separated, meticulously ‘tatted’ in a symmetrical pattern and heavily painted to create the look of a knotted rope frame around three sides. Great piece of nautical Americana. Measurements: 38 ¾” wide x 16 ½” tall.
