RM1538 Late 19th century Oyster shipping bucket in original painted surface with ‘RR Higgins & Co Boston’ hand stenciled in black paint on front. The number ‘1641’– which was most likely the bucket or vendor number - is also stenciled in black paint on the front of the bucket and on top of the lid. The thick wooden staved sides are held in place with three metal bands, and the hinged lid with iron hasp opens to reveal original oyster white painted surface. NOTE: The R.R. Higgins & Co. was established in 1828 in Boston, Mass. The company had Packing Houses in Drownville, RI, Wellfleet, Mass. And Norfolk, VA. Measurements: 10 ¼” top diameter x 13” bottom diameter x 12 ¼” tall (18” tall to top of handle)
