RM1571 Rare 1850s – 1860s era US Army-issued brass Camel Bell that was used by the US Cavalry in a little-known “U.S. Army Camel Corps” experiment which began just prior to the Civil War. There are three raised design Federal Eagles with shields, arrows, olive leaf branches and stars embossed around the circumference of the bell’s exterior. The iron ball ringer remains intact inside. The original thick leather strap remains intact on top. This is the larger of the three sized bells known to exist during this experiment. Measurements: 5 ¾” bottom diameter x 5” tall – including the brass strap loop, but not including the leather strap.
