RM1316 Lovely Native American Indian lidded basket attributed to the Winnebago Tribe of the Great Lakes /Wisconsin area. Intricately woven with both natural and dyed (blue-green) strips of various sizes of splint ash, including the curled designs around the bottom that this Tribe was known for, are secured by a single wrapped bentwood rim on both the lid and bottom parts. Small, wrapped bentwood handle remains intact on the lid. Lid fits tightly to base. Nice golden patina to the natural splints, some faded areas to the dyed splints where they have been exposed to sun over the years. Great condition! Measurements: 7 1/2” diameter across curls on bottom part x 5” diameter across lid. Height, including handle, is 5”.
